Spiral density wave generation by vortices in Keplerian flows

چکیده
We perform a detailed analytical and numerical study of the dynamics of perturbations (vor-tex/aperiodic mode, Rossby and spiral-density waves) in 2D compressible disks with a Keplerian law of rotation. We draw attention to the process of spiral-density wave generation from vortices, discussing, in particular, the initial, most peculiar stages of wave emission. We show that the linear phenomenon of wave generation by vortices in smooth (without inflection points) shear flows found by using the so-called non-modal approach, is directly applicable to the present case. After an analytical non-modal description of the physics and characteristics of the spiral-density wave generation/propagation in the local shearing-sheet model, we follow the process of wave generation by small amplitude coherent circular vortex structures, by direct global numerical simulation, describing the main features of the generated waves.

Hydrodynamic stability and mode coupling in Keplerian flows: local strato-rotational analysis
Aims. We present a qualitative analysis of key (but yet unappreciated) linear phenomena in stratified hydrodynamic Keplerian flows: (i) the occurrence of a vortex mode, as a consequence of strato-rotational balance, with its transient dynamics; (ii) the generation of spiral-density waves (also called inertia-gravity or gΩ waves) by the vortex mode through linear mode coupling in shear flows. Me...

The water wave generation by wave paddle and a freely falling rigid body are examined by using an Incompressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (ISPH). In the current ISPH method, the pressure was evaluated by solving pressure Poisson equation using a semi-implicit algorithm based on the projection scheme and the source term of pressure Poisson equation contains both of divergence free ve...
متن کاملGeneration and Instability of Spiral Wakes in Sheared Electron Flows
Images of the electron density of a magnetized electron column illustrate the dynamics of intense vortices moving in a weaker background vorticity. A moving retrograde clump of vorticity generates a spiral wake that then evolves into many long-lived holes, contributing to the late time fluctuations.
متن کاملVortices in self-gravitating gaseous discs
Vortices have recently received much attention in the research of planet formation, as they are believed to play a role in the formation of km-sized planetesimals by collecting dust particles in their centres. However, vortex dynamics is commonly studied in nonself-gravitating discs. The main goal here is to examine the effects of disc self-gravity on vortex dynamics. For this purpose, we emplo...
متن کاملRossby Wave Instability of Keplerian Accretion Disks
We find a linear instability of non-axisymmetric Rossby waves in a thin nonmagnetized Keplerian disk when there is a local maximum in the radial profile of a key function L(r) ≡ F(r)S2/Γ(r), where F−1 = ẑ · (∇× v)/Σ is the potential vorticity, S = P/ΣΓ is the entropy, Σ is the surface mass density, P is the vertically integrated pressure, and Γ is the adiabatic index. We consider in detail the ...
